A week with Lysette from Candid Equitation offers more than unforgettable trail rides and top-quality lessons in the arena and roundpen—it’s also a chance to connect and unwind with her and the other two- and four-legged residents of the ranch.
Trail rides take place at all gaits and often involve steep terrain, so confidence riding outside of an arena is essential.
Depending on the day’s route, rides may include long stretches of trot and canter at a lively pace through winding paths and open countryside. These segments require good balance and the ability to ride in a light seat, staying off the horse’s back. Riders should be experienced and self-assured enough to enjoy this dynamic and adventurous style of riding.
Monday: Roundpen sessions and an arena lesson to get to know the horses and refine communication.
Tuesday: Another lesson followed by a slow-paced trail ride through challenging terrain.
Wednesday: Our scenic stream ride, followed by a relaxing afternoon at the beach or spa.
Thursday: A fast-paced trail with long canters in the morning, then another riding lesson in the afternoon.
Friday: The long ride – a 20 km journey across varied and stunning Alentejo landscapes.
Students describe Lysette’s lessons as eye-opening: “finally things make sense” and “there’s logic in everything she says.” At the same time, riding is a sport, and a good seat is a hard-earned skill. Lysette will guide you in this journey, and you’ll be sure to feel the difference in your body.
