Our Philosophy

Feeling the connection to horses is good for our soul, but we have to make sure that it’s also good for the horse. Our philosophy is based on finding a way to connect that feels good to both human and horse.
“A horse without a rider is still a horse, while a rider without a horse is just a person.”

Horses were not created to be ridden. If we want them to have long and happy lives, we need to make sure that we do our best to keep them physically fit. This does not just mean veterinary care, but rather as much free time on the pasture as possible and good riding to keep the horse fit.

Humans love being with horses, touching them, riding them, feeling the connection, but being around humans is not always easy for the horse, which is after all a prey animal. We need to find ways that allow the horse to feel safe with us and do enter a partnership with us willingly.

Since 2011, we have been working to create a space for horses and people to live in harmony on our beautiful piece of land on the South-Western coast of Portugal. Our herd is a mixed group in terms of age and sex and they live outside all day every day, drinking from the river, grazing and generally behaving in a natural way.

For our human guests, we try to provide a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere, because we believe that only a relaxed mind can learn. The unspoiled nature around the ranch, the comfortable guest house and our attentive staff help make our guests feel at ease. And once people and horses are equally at ease, Sandra can do what she does best and show you how wonderful it feels to be truly in harmony with your horse.
